“Hey friends” or as we say in Mississippi, “HEY Y’ALL!”
Thank you for being here with me for my very first blog! I am so excited to share new resources, connections, and thoughts with you about the importance of maintaining a healthy body. As a doctor, I am deeply invested in creating a community where you can learn more ways to fall in love with health and wellness. As a person, I want all of us to live our life to the fullest… and that starts with our physical and mental health!
Before we get too deep into everything, I want to lay the foundation for a concept we are hearing more and more everyday: HOLISTIC – I know you have probably heard this word a million times.
Recently, I’ve noticed that more of us are prioritizing our self-care and healing, and I love that for us! We deserve to have a space that gives us the right information about our bodies… so, I think it’s time to delve into exactly what this word means. Don’t worry, I’ll leave all the confusing medical words out of this blog!
In the medical world, the term holistic simply means “WHOLE”, in totality. From day one of medical school, we are trained to treat each individual person as a whole – instead of solely focusing on symptoms. The body is a unit, so each person is a unit of body, mind, and soul… which are all interconnected. We believe the body is capable of healing itself, and it’s the physician’s job to help the body accomplish just that. We do this by prioritizing preventative medicine, eating properly, and keeping fit. When this isn’t enough, we assist with medicine and other interventions that are both grounded in science and backed by research.
Good health doesn’t just encompass absence of physical disease; it necessitates healthy habits and thoughts.
So, when we talk about being holistic, it really means taking care of every part of you… top to bottom, inside and out.

Here are a few of my recommendations to take control of your health and improve outcomes:
1 – Take a daily multivitamin.
Your favorite pick is my favorite pick too! From a generic brand to a more recognized brand, a multivitamin will get the job done!
2 – Maintain a balanced diet.
Proper food and water are a must! Here’s a good rule to implement: Prepare half of your plate with fruits and veggies; split the other half between protein and whole grains, and when it comes to water – aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces daily… yes DAILY!! (For example, 200 lbs. x 0.5 = 100 oz)
3 – MOVE.
Turn on your favorite playlist and get active! Set a goal to engage in at least 30 mins of physical activity a day, five days out of the week.
4 – Prioritize yourself.
Listen to your body. Get the rest you need, journal, meditate and pray (without ceasing)!
